After the Easter break, Panthers were eager to get back to action against a Brownhills side who they had beaten 3-0 just 4 weeks ago. After a scrappy start to the game, Panthers opened the scoring with a well rehearsed corner routine taken by Joshua Eyre, who pulled the ball back for Andy Vaughan to strike an unstopable first-time shot from outside the box past the helpless Brownhills keeper. The second went in soon after when George Coldicott showed great composure lobbing the advancing keeper superbly with the outside of his foot. Panthers increased their lead to 3-0 in the 15th minute, when Owen Davies latched onto a loose ball in the box, after an Oliver Davis throw in, and forced the ball over the line. After a goaless period of play, Panthers got their 4th just before half time, when Owen Davies powered in a great header for his 20th goal of the season, from another corner taken by Joshua Eyre. There was however, still time for Andy Reynolds to poach his first of the game, and Panther’s 5th, right on half time when he beat the keeper to a through ball and slotted in from a tight angle. After the break, the goals continued to fly in with Sam Bateman notching his first, quickly followed by Andy Reynolds adding his 2nd of the game. Joshua Eyre lashed in a left foot volley from close to the touch line into the roof of the net for arguably the goal of the game, which was followed by another contender when Lewis Ansell hit a shot from way out which left the keeper with no chance. Sam Bateman added his second of the game, Dominic Cella added 2 more with a couple of great strikes, Lewis Ansell notched his second and the scoring was completed with 5 minutes remaining when George Coldicott added the 14th. Brownhills managed a consolation goal late on with a good finish which keeper James Walters could do nothing about.
Overall, a great display from the Panthers, culminating in the best result of the season. Six players all on a hat-trick at the end of the game, all desparate to get their 3rd, and 8 different scorers. Credit too, to Brownhills who kept going right to the end despite relentless pressure on their goal in the 2nd half. In addition to the goalscorers, there were excellent performances from Oliver Davis, Luke Ayres and James O’Brien at full back, Owen Cartridge who despite playing at centre half, went desparately close to scoring in the 2nd half, Ross Murti who had his usual solid game in midfield and James Walters in goal, whose handling and kicking was excellent.
Well done boys – a great performance.
