Another weekend and another semi-final for Wyrley Girls, who again forced their way into the Open Cup Final with a battling performance.
Wyrley’s passing was better than last week but again too much respect at times was given to their opponents. Laura Cumberledge opened the scoring at the far post from a fine Hayley Turner cross. Jemma Clews smashed home the second from outside the box to give a comfortable half time lead. A defensive lapse gave Sutton hope before Clews latched on to an Emily Quimby through ball to steer it past the onrushing keeper. Turner was brought down after a sparkling run to give Wyrley a penalty, put away with confidence by Quimby.
Well done girls – another Final!
Wyrley have now score 170 goals in 15 matches this season and are now unbeaten in 30 games BUT tough games to come.
