Wyrley Panthers v Wyrley Tigers Friendly Match
Having not played for a number of weeks due to the weather there was a worry the boys would be rusty and the pitch did not look conducive to passing football. However, two brilliant performances from the boys produced two great wins.
Against the Tigers the boys started sharply and passed the ball around the field well despite the mud. The Panthers were well up for this game and pressed their opposition high up the pitch winning the ball back in dangerous areas and making chances. However, as always, Joe Timmins was in good form in goal and Joe Rodda looked dangerous with his pace on the break.
However, the Panthers finally made the breakthrough following a cool finish by Ben ‘Whizza’ Herrington and another one from Josh Reynolds following good work from Rio Parkes-Mahoney. Josh Reynolds deserved his goal after a tigerish display in the middle of midfield.
A deserved win for the lads, who despite the weather, continued with the philosophy of getting the ball down and playing football.
Wyrley Panthers v Beechdale Friendly Match
The second game was awash with goals with 12 coming for the panthers in total.
Amazingly a record breaking 10 of these were scored by Ashton ‘Goals’ Cooper although one is being hotly disputed by Ben ‘Tank’ Maginness who is adamant one of the 10 is his. However, as a typical striker Goals is having none of it.
Beechdale simply could not live with the three-pronged attack of Ben ‘Tank’ Maginness, Josh ‘Smasher’ Mason and Ashton ‘Goals’ Cooper. They were readily supplied with great through balls by the rest of the midfield and defence.
There was some simply clinical finishing on display and nearly everything that Goals hit went in the back of the net. His finishes included some lovely one-on-one finishes, a crunching volley and some close-range fox in the box efforts.
The other goals were scored by Tank, who was outstanding on the right-wing and supplied many of the crosses for Goal’s finishes and the other was finished superbly into the top corner of the net by Smasher.
A fantastic day of passing football and clinical finishing ended in man of the match awards going to Josh Reynolds and Goals Cooper. Well done boys.
