Wyrley came out on top in the first of 3 encounters to be played in the closing stages of the season.
They went out briskly and Emily Quimby must have taken 12 quality corners that caused havoc in the box but clear chances could not be created. Leamington defended bravely, blocking shot after shot and snuffing out good oppportunities for Wyrley. Despite their dominance in the first half, Wyrley nearly paid for their generosity as Lions had 2 long range efforts that cleared the bar.
It looked as though Leamington would hold out for half time when probably the worst of Quimby’s corners was hit home by Sophie Shorrock after a Becky Jones shot came back off the bar. Jemma Clews smashed the second goal in after a rebound.
Lions came out more adventurous in the second half, which was a more even affair. They enjoyed an equal amount of possession, but only tested Nia Jay from distance. Two crosses from Clews were despatched by Hayley Turner and an unfortunate defender to secure 3 points for Wyrley.
Well done girls!
The second leg of this 3 match sequence takes place next Saturday in Leamington.
